No musician has been more closely identified with the immortal music of J.S. Bach than Helmuth Rilling.
Beginning his career as a 21-year old music student in the Swabian Alps when he founded the Gächinger Kantorei, Helmuth Rilling has conducted, performed or edited every note of Bach's music. Maestro Rilling has been active as a conductor since 1965 when he established the Bach-Collegiums Stuttgart and since has directed many orchestras and choruses world wide.
As Artistic Director of the International Bach Academy, Rilling has taught generations of musicians, singers, scholars while his Pre-Concert Talks and Demonstration Concerts have introduced tens of thousands of listeners to the mysteries and inner-workings of Bach's masterpieces. About his life's work, RIlling has said "Music should never be comfortable, nor exist as if in a museum or function only as a decoration. It must arouse, and personally touch each human being and provoke him to think."
And to this end, Helmuth Rilling has dedicated his life, with a repertoire that spans the 17th through the 21st centuries, inviting us to explore and be challenged to think and experience something new.

In November 2008, Helmuth Rilling, the Gächinger Kantorei and the Bach-Collegium Stuttgart will perform Bach's B Minor Mass in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome - destined to be a monumental and moving experience. For those not fortunate enough to be able to attend, this very special performance will be available for download as a podcast and can be enjoyed over and over again on your very own iPod.
